Neuchatel village rallies round to help

Following the storms last week, a Neuchatel village is experiencing a renewed sense of community.

Several residents in Cressier had flood water and mud flow through their homes making them uninhabitable.

Locals stepped up to help those most in need, cleaning homes and gardens – offering water and to do laundry.

The local restaurant is also feeding those who have no workable kitchen at the moment as well as the volunteers. The owner, Leonardo Pereira, says it is costing him personally, but he is also getting donations.

The local post office is taking in food being offered – it’s packed with pasta and canned food as well as pots and pans.

One local, 63-year-old Huguette Gi, says she’s had a lot of help since her small apartment was wrecked. She says she’s crying with gratitude.
