Morges shooting judged self-defence

After a three-year investigation, prosecutors in canton Vaud have determined the police officer who shot dead a man at Morges train station in 2021 was acting in self-defence.

37-year-old Roger Wilhelm ran toward the officer with a large knife, who then fired three times.

Prosecutors accepted the officer had no time to take any other action to defend himself.

The three officers at the scene were also cleared of not offering sufficient help. An autopsy determined the gunshot wounds were not survivable, so there was nothing they could have done.
