A massive amount of snow fell on the southern Alps over the weekend – triggering avalanche alerts and closing mountain passes.
Forecasters say around half a meter of snow fell in some mountain areas of canton Ticino.
There are warnings of dangerous driving conditions on the southern entrances of the Gotthard and San Bernadino tunnels.
Many passes are closed, including the Simplon and Lukmanier.
Severe avalanche warnings are set to remain in place until tomorrow at the earliest, according to the Snow and Avalanche Research Centre.
