Police suspect a man who was randomly shot in Frauenfeld in canton Thurgau in February was hit by a military weapon.
The 38-year-old was with his two children and a friend in a park when he felt a sharp pain in his stomach. He went to hospital and doctors discovered he had been shot.
Where the shot came from and who fired the gun is still a mystery – but army investigators suspect it may have come from a military issued rifle.
Many conscripted men keep their weapons at home – and many others keep it ready even when their time in the army has come to an end.
A spokesman says it may take months for investigations to be completed.
