Major storms hit several areas of the country overnight.

Thunder, lightning and hail hit central and northern areas – and strong gusts of wind around canton Valais. In Visp, gusts of up to 96 kph were recorded at 9pm last night - after a day of more 30 degrees, which was the hottest in the country. Meteonews says it had never been so warm so early in the season in Visp since records began.

Some areas of the Bernese Oberland were hit by heavy rain and hail, especially around Interlaken in canton Bern.
