The Liberal Party in Geneva has submitted a motion calling for the canton to officially support the Future Circular Collider proposed by CERN.
The new collider would be 91km long and is predicted to cost around CHF 20bn. It will take 30 years to build – but a feasibility study is currently underway.
Some have questioned the money and the energy it would take to run.
But the Liberals say it will secure Geneva’s position as being in the forefront of physics until the end of the century.
