Geneva land ownership change

The canton of Geneva is set to become the sole owner of the land beneath Stade de Genève, buying out a parcel held by federal railways CFF for CHF 15.84 million

The cantonal parliament's finance commission approved the purchase on Wednesday, described by the government as a friendly divorce and a settlement of all accounts.

Officials say taking full ownership will save money long-term and give the canton room to reshape the southern edge of the Praille-Acacias-Vernets district, which is undergoing major redevelopment.

The land will pass to the PAV Foundation, which is steering that transformation.
