The G7 summit on the French shore of Lake Geneva is set to upend daily life for thousands of cross-border travellers from 11 June.
From the night before, two security perimeters will lock down the spa town of 9,400, with access restricted to G7 passholders.
The main lake ferry route from Lausanne to Evian will dock instead at Lugrin, several kilometres further east, where shuttle buses will take passengers the rest of the way. Extra security agents will ride on board and at the landings throughout the summit.
Several of the borders around Geneva will be completely closed, teleworking is recommended and suspended city-centre activities will extend through the week following the planned protest weekend of 13 and 14 June.
Officials in the canton are likening the coming days to a "shortened covid" as Geneva slows to half-speed.
