Historical bridge reopens in Geneva

An historically important bridge in Geneva has reopened after 2 years of renovation.

The Passerelle de l’Île links the Halles de L’Île from the Quai de la Poste in the centre of town amd it's older than the Eiffel Tower.

It needed major work to make it safe. 

The uprights have been reinforced, it’s been cleaned and repainted in its original colour and it’s slightly higher than it was to make it more balanced between the two sides. 

It was originally built in the 1880s to link the island when it housed the city’s slaughterhouses.
