A survey by the Accident Prevention Office and the motorist organisation, the TCS, shows that half of children in a car seat are being placed incorrectly – which could lead to serious injury.
The main error was the seat belt being placed across the child’s neck.
While most seats designed for young children were used correctly, the big problem was with booster seats for older children. Parents are urged to make sure the child has really grown out of a child seat before using a booster.
Other important errors include not securing the seats properly.
In Switzerland, child seats are compulsory for all children up to the age of 12 or a height of 150 cm.
