The amount of grass pollen in the air will be increasing over the next few days. The Swiss Allergy Centre says grass pollen is the main trigger for hay fever – and the flowering will last longer due to climate change.
Normally the peak grass pollen season runs from mid-May, but it’s starting earlier this year.
The Allergy Centre points out that grass flowering has moved from May to April over the last 40 years, reflecting the warming of the climate.
Climate change also means new allergenic plants, such as olive trees and cypresses are more common.
