Geneva students want return of 3 franc meals

The student union at the University of Geneva is calling for the return of three-franc meals.

The subsidized meals were offered during the lockdown between May and June. The union says that was a success as over 22,000 were served.

But those meals were funded by private foundations and the university as lockdowns meant many students were unable to work due to the closure of bars and restaurants.

The cantonal education department says it wants to avoid a situation where all students get subsidized meals, regardless of their financial status.

The union says it would like to run the cafeterias which are paid for by the university.
