Geneva roadworks harming economy

The plethora of roadworks in Geneva is stifling the economy.

That’s the conclusion of several business leaders in the city – and they’re demanding solutions.

The head of the Federation of Swiss French Businesses, Ivan Slatkine, told the Tribune de Genève, that he understands there needs to be work done – but it should be better coordinated. He says the functioning of the economy is being hampered.

The head of the Bongénie Group, Loïc Brunschwig, says stores have seen a 15 to 25% drop in turnover.

Other sectors, such as cafes and bars are claiming similar impacts.

Ideas being put forward include later working, better diversions and have flexible lanes – so they flow one way during the morning rush hour and then reverse for the evening.
