Geneva likely to OK new footbridge

It seems likely the City of Geneva will green light the construction of the Mont Blanc footbridge at its session later today.

It was due to be voted on yesterday – but councillors ran out of time.

It will cost CHF 54m and run for 234 meters.

The construction will mean moving a boat landing stage from the Quai Wilson. The plans for that have held up the decision.

Once finished, the sidewalk on the road bridge will be closed and a two-way cycle lane installed.

Provided it's not held up with a referendum, which is deemed unlikely, work could start before the end of the year.
