The Geneva Grand Council has voted to lift many restrictions on fitting solar panels on roofs.
The vote was in response by an initiative by the Green Liberals which is pushing for compulsory solar panels. That was seen as a step too far.
That initiative could now be withdrawn.
Even with the new lighter rule, it’s thought that most roofs in the canton don’t need permission anyway.
The canton has a target to have 30% of electricity produced by solar panels.
