Geneva police have been clamping down on illegal electric scooters.
For an e-scooter to be used on the roads – it cannot go faster than 20 kph. It doesn’t matter if the rider wasn’t speeding.
Police are using a roller machine. The rider is asked to set the scooters to fast mode and its speed is checked.
There is some tolerance. A speed up to 30 is allowed. If it’s over that, the scooter is seized and a fine of CHF 300 issued.
Owners seem unaware of the rules. Many scooters available will go up 55. They can be used on private land and the difference is not explained to the buyers.
