French/Swiss crime network smashed

A major cross-border criminal network targeting Switzerland has been dismantled following a joint investigation by French and Swiss authorities.

According to police and prosecutors in canton Neuchâtel, the group – based in the Pays de Gex in neighbouring France - was responsible for stealing high-powered motorcycles and luxury cars, as well as carrying out burglaries and attempted break-ins at gun shops across several cantons.

The crimes were coordinated from France, with thefts committed in Switzerland.

Police have broken up a significant organization, which was being run by bosses already in prison.

In total, 56 cases were linked to the network, including a dozen attacks on arms dealers in six cantons.

Those detained are being brought in front of a French investigating judge in Bourg-en-Bresse.
