Rumours that the manager of the Swiss national football team is in talks with a French football club have been confirmed by the Swiss Football Association.

In a statement issued yesterday, the association says that the sports director of Girondins Bordeaux has contacted the Swiss national team director to express the club’s interest in Vladimir Petkovic, the most successful national manager in Swiss history.

Under Petkovic’s leadership, the Swiss team reached the quarterfinals of the European Championship earlier this month, knocking out defending champions France.

The Swiss Football Association said that discussions are currently underway between Pekovic and the French club, adding that Pekovic’s ongoing contract will automatically be extended to the end of 2022 if his team qualifies for the World Cup.
