A proposed federal law which will allow shops to open on a Sunday once a month for the next two years is triggering concern with unions.
In Geneva, there were already worries about workers’ rights and pay after the canton allowed 4 Sunday openings a year. But the federal proposal means there needs to be clearer guidelines on what Sunday working will mean.
Unions say workers should have extra pay and more time off to compensate.
The new law could form part of a series of measures designed to kick start the economy after the pandemic. It will be put to a people’s vote over the summer.
