Federal Court to hear 'porn trap' cases

After a decade of various complaints, the Federal Court is going to hear the case of the so called ‘Porn Trap’.

Public prosecutors say consumers thought they were taking advantage of a three-day free offer on a porn site – but then their subscription was automatically upgraded to a paid service.

When they refused to pay, they received aggressive letters from a debt collection agency.

It works using SMS. The site sends a video – and the user seemingly agrees to pay an annual fee of around CHF 150 by pressing play.

There have been several complaints to the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs about the scam – it’s thought there could be many others caught in the same trap, but have not reported it.
