Eurovision price gouging in Basel

If you want to stay in Basel during the Eurovision Song Contest - it will cost you.

The cost of renting an apartment is around 4 times the normal rate.

Online booking platforms are showing one place to stay for Eurovision week at CHF 3,482 – the following week it’s CHF 937.

There’s also another studio apartment being offered for almost CHF 10,000 a week, up from its normal price of CHF 635. That’s 14 times as much.

While some price rises are to be expected, the local hotel association says it would be reasonable to double the price, but no more.
