An elderly woman in a wheelchair had a narrow escape after she fell onto the train tracks at a station in canton Aargau just when an express train was approaching.

The train was not due to stop at Kaiseraugst and had to apply the emergency brakes. The woman escaped with minor injuries, but her electric wheelchair was destroyed. A man on the platform was slightly injured by the flying debris.

Police say it’s not known how the woman ended up on the tracks – but they are ruling out foul play at this stage.

Train traffic was delayed for several hours.

An investigation is underway.
