Drink driver faces possible murder charge

A man is facing murder charges after hitting and killing a cyclist on the Collex-Bossy Road in Geneva while driving drunk.

The accident happened in August 2023.

The 44-year-old is also accused of driving too fast on the road while 4 times over the alcohol limit. He collided with Alexander, a 24-year-old student on his bike.

Judges must decide if he should be charged with murder or the lesser negligent homicide.

Investigators say he may have been driving as fast as 85 kph – a fellow driver had already called the police when he was spotted speeding just before the accident.

The trial continues.
