Cyber attacks on the rise

Six months after Switzerland introduced mandatory reporting of cyberattacks, the Federal Office of Cybersecurity says it’s seeing results.

Since April, 164 incidents have been logged from critical infrastructure operators - most reported within the required 24 hours.

Finance tops the hit list with nearly one in five cases, followed by IT and energy. Other affected sectors include healthcare, telecoms, and government.

As for the methods: Denial of Service attacks lead with 18 percent, followed by hacks, ransomware and stolen credentials.

Officials say reporting strengthens national threat awareness and early warnings. And starting today, failure to report could cost companies up to CHF 100,000.
