Covid hospitalizations climb

The number of people in hospital suffering from covid is up.

The head of infectious diseases at Winterthur Cantonal Hospital, Urs Karrer, told the NZZ yesterday the main reason is a new variant.

Although the virus is not spreading as fast as the winter of 2022, he says he believes up to 30% of the population could be infected – which will still be a serious wave.

But he does point out not as many people die of covid now.

Those in hospital are also suffering from other conditions – such as heart problems.

However, the government is recommending all those vulnerable should be tested.
