A Zurich court has ordered an elderly man’s four guns and more than thousand rounds of ammunition should be returned to him.
The police confiscated the weapons after the man appeared at a nearby school, wearing a Swiss army uniform, carrying his guns and allowing the children to touch the unloaded weapons.
Police also searched his apartment and found the weapons were being stored carelessly.
A psychiatric report shows the man was suffering from depression and if he stopped taking his medication there was a danger he could use the weapons.
The court ruled the man had been stable for the last ten years and he never showed any threatening behaviour and so his guns should be returned.
He was also paid compensation of CHF 5,000 and prosecutors will have to pay costs.
He was fined CHF 200 for wearing the uniform improperly.
