Vaud authorities are being criticized for taking too long to reopen the A1 autoroute after a truck carrying rubbish overturned on Tuesday morning.
The accident happened at about 9.30 am. The road wasn’t reopened until 6.30pm – and then it was closed again overnight for repairs.
Engineers say they were unable to lift the truck – which took two cranes – until it had been emptied. It took several hours to bring in a digger to do that. Then they point out oil had to be cleaned from the roadway.
They say they worked as quickly as possible and pointed out some workers on vacation were called in.
That section of the autoroute between Gland and Nyon, is the third busiest in the country, carrying 80,000 vehicles a day.
