Internationally renowned cellist, Ophélie Gaillard, has issued a heart rending plea after her cello was stolen from her apartment in neighbouring France between Annecy and Geneva.

It was taken overnight on the September 24th. The instrument is worth over a million euro.

It was made in the year 1737 by the master Venetian violin maker, Francesco Goffriller.

Gaillard has been using it for over 20 years – she says she doubts it was a targeted theft as the thieves also took other items, such as computers and cash.

She’s calling for its safe return. She says her major fear is that it could be damaged.
