Campaign urges 'no' in Geneva shop vote

The campaign against more liberal shop opening hours in Geneva has been launched. Voters will have their say next month.

The Geneva Grand Council already agreed that shops can open until 7pm every day – except Sundays – and three Sunday openings will be allowed every year.

But left-wing parties are against the move and are urging voters to reject the new rules in an upcoming referendum.

The campaign features two sales staff who complain that Saturday is the only day they can have time with friends or family and that time will be cut further if shops can open till 7.

Those in favour of the new laws say that around half of shop workers are part time anyway and enjoy flexible working conditions.

Voters will decide on November 28th.
