Parliament in Bern has backed a motion which calls for an acceleration of the building of a new train line between Geneva and Lausanne, going against the recommendations of the federal council.
The head of the Transport Commission, Damien Cottier says the line is a rare case on the mainline network that does not have a redundancy.
He says when there are problems on that section, the effects are felt as far as Basel and Zurich.
The government says the motion has already been accepted after the agreement to build a new tunnel at Morges. But Cottier points out that’s only 9 kilometres of a total of 66.
