Calls to make blood donation easier

There are calls for Switzerland to make donating blood easier by reducing some of the restrictions currently in place.

The impact of Covid means many blood banks are now dangerously low.

But this country has stricter requirements than many other European countries - especially concerning donations for gay and bisexual men who have to have been sexually abstinent for the previous 12 months.

For everyone else, you can’t have changed sexual partner for the last 4 months.

Other countries are more relaxed about sexual orientation and activity.

A Radical-Liberal parliamentarian, Damien Cottier, has introduced a motion for an end to discrimination in blood donation.
