The Confederation will compensate Geneva for the cost of hosting the summit between US president Joe Biden and the Russian leader Vladimir Putin in June last year.
Bern has ruled the event qualifies as ‘extraordinary’ which allows federal money to be used.
Geneva will get back 80% of the cost of providing security for the event – just over CHF 4m.
