Bern has given the green light to spend nearly CHF 3bn on road improvements.
Across the region, the money will be spent on the A1 between Etoy and Ecublens, and Yverdon and Arrissoules.
Also, the money will go on the continuing work on the A1 junction at Grand-Saconnex.
The government will also restart the national road programme which was stopped in 1960 – leaving some gaps.
The main cantons benefitting will be Valais, Bern, Obwalden, Zurich and Schwyz.
