A couple in the city of Bern are facing charges for allegedly defrauding the benefits system, despite being millionaires.
It’s thought they could have netted as much as CHF 17m.
Prosecutors say the couple, aged 71 and 61, made numerous applications for benefits between 2009 and 2023, claiming they were living at a subsistence level.
But when their house was searched, investigators found luxury handbags, fur coats and fine wines.
A court date is pending, according to the Bern cantonal police.
