Bern City council is considering changing the law to allow pets to be buried with their owners.
Campaigners for the move point out animals are often the last companion of the elderly.
While it’s not technically illegal to bury pets in graveyards – there are issues of adhering to the law which secures the peace of the dead.
It can take as long as three years to get permission to disturb a grave to allow a new burial.
The idea is Bern would create a specific graveyard which allows animal burials – that’s being described as ground-breaking in itself.
