Amherd congratulates Trump

The Swiss president Viola Amherd has sent her congratulations to Donald Trump on his election success.

In a message on X, she points out that Switzerland is a long-standing partner of the US and has strong economic and scientific links.

The US is this country's second biggest trading partner, after the EU, and is the seventh largest investor in the US with a volume of CHF 260bn.

Amherd goes on to say that Switzerland looks forward to continuing to work with the US on the basis of shared interests.
