A1 will be closed in summer for fighter landings

The Air Force has confirmed it will be test landing and take offs for the F/A 18 jet fighters on the A1 autoroute over the summer.

The road will be closed at 9pm on Tuesday June 4th and reopened 9am on Thursday 6th between Avenches and Payerne in canton Vaud.

Traffic will be diverted onto local roads.

Several sections of the autoroute network across the country have been designed to handle jet fighters, if necessary, but as this section wasn’t completed until the end of the 90s, it’s never been used.

The Air Force says it wants to be ready as the security situation in Europe is uncertain.
