New System for Tax-Free Fuel for Diplomats - Coming 1 Jan 2026

Attention diplomats! It’s time to apply for a new tax-free fuel card ahead of the 2026 rollout.

The new procedure is part of the Swiss government’s broader effort to modernise and digitise services for the diplomatic community. Starting on 1 January 2026, a new system will make it easier for diplomats in Switzerland to access tax-free fuel.

Developed by the Swiss Federal Office for Customs and Border Security (OFDF), this new procedure replaces the older, more limited setup with a modern, nationwide network. The change aims to simplify how members of the diplomatic and international community manage their fuel tax exemptions.

The TAMOIL/Forax diplomatic fuel card is central to this process, allowing cardholders to refuel at participating stations nationwide with tax exemptions automatically applied at the pump.

Cardholders receive periodic invoices summarising fuel transactions and account balances, and all activity can be monitored online through the secure Forax portal, where cards can also be managed, blocked, or replaced if necessary. The online platform makes it easy to track transactions, download invoices, and maintain full administrative oversight, providing a transparent and user-friendly experience.

For diplomats based in Geneva, Vaud, and Bern, TAMOIL offers particularly strong coverage. With over 250 stations nationwide, Tamoil is prepared to meet high demand and provide reliable access throughout these regions, making it a practical and convenient option for any eligible persons on the move.

Find your nearest TAMOIL station using the online store locator on or by consulting the TAMOIL Suisse app - available on apple and android.

Eligible diplomats are encouraged to apply for the new tax-free fuel card ahead of the 2026 rollout. For registration information or questions about the transition, contact your protocol office or visit www.tamoil.ch/diplomaticcard

FAQs
Q: Is the coverage of the new TAMOIL Diplomatic Card for 100% of TAMOIL service stations in Switzerland or only some?
A: The new TAMOIL Diplomatic Card will work at every TAMOIL service station across Switzerland.

Q: Can I continue to receive tax-free fuel directly at the pump? How does it work?
A: Cardholders will be able to refuel tax-free with their TAMOIL card. All fuel purchases are invoiced monthly and tax-free. It works the same way as a classic Fuel Card with an individual pin code, except that all taxes (mineral oil tax, VAT) are deducted on the monthly invoice.

Q: When will the official registration form be available?
A: The official online registration form from Forax will be available on Tuesday, 16 December, and this will be the entry point for all diplomats, permanent missions, embassies and international organisations.

Q: Will the old system continue to be available in 2026?
A: Communication about the old system is managed by the organisations currently operating it. The new TAMOIL solution is fully independent and aligned with the new OFDF procedure. Diplomats will be informed by their respective administrations regarding transition timelines.

A: Forax is TAMOIL’s official partner for managing the DiplomaticCard. They specialise in diplomatic tax-free services and handle card management and tax-free invoicing. They provide customer support for the TAMOIL Diplomatic Card.
