A small girl has died while skiing in the French resort of Flaine – a man has been arrested for suspected manslaughter.
The 5-year-old was part of a ski of a lesson on an easy blue slope. A 40-year-old volunteer firefighter collided with her as she made a turn.
The girl has been named locally as Ophélie – she’s British and lives with her UK family in Geneva.
The accident happened yesterday morning.
The man is now in custody. The local prosecutor says he was skiing at high speed on the easy slope.
If convicted he could face 5 years in jail.
The family have returned to Geneva and is receiving psychological support.
