Yes, cars are bigger

New figures show something we’ve all suspected for the last few years – cars are getting bigger, but parking spaces stay the same.

Swiss French Television has examined the latest numbers and shows new car models have lengthened 16cm since 2011.

But width is a bigger problem – cars have widened 6cm in the same time.

The average car is now 4m49 long and 1m84 wide.

Johnny Perera from Inovil car parks in Lausanne, told the broadcaster that bigger cars are a problem in car parks that were designed 50 years ago.

He says the only solution is to cut the number of spaces available.
