Warning of winter energy crisis

The government is warning of an energy crisis this winter and says that everyone must pull together.

There’s criticism that the office which is responsible for keeping the lights on, the Federal Office for National Economic Supply, is undergoing a major restructuring and its head is retiring.

Some parliamentarians complain the government has been caught napping. But a spokeswoman for the office says there’s no right time for a reorganization.

But it’s not too late to be ready, says the government. It’s time to start thinking on how to save gas and electricity.

At a press conference in Bern, the government warned if there are shortages, then there could be orders to stop using some power-hungry leisure devices, such as Jacuzzis. Escalators could also be stopped and there could also be rolling blackouts.

This is officially known as a Level 4 alert. And the decision to trigger it would be by someone who hasn’t yet been employed.

The last time the government issued such as warning was in the 1970s.
