The Swiss Tenants' Association has secured the 140,000 signatures it needed to force a national vote on abusive rents.
The initiative would require rents to be monitored automatically and lowered where judged excessive, taking the burden off individual renters.
The association says the current system leaves tenants to fight property managers alone, often in fear of losing their homes.
