The Geneva commune of Vernier will also be voting on whether to ban advertising billboards on public land.

Vernier follows Geneva which will also be holding a vote on the same issue. 

In both cases, to issue has been forced to a vote after campaigners against the ban collected enough signatures.

Those wanting to ban the hoardings say they’re an eyesore – but others say they’re an essential advertising medium for local business and an undue restriction on trade. 

Many fear if local advertising is banned – then people will turn to Google and Facebook.
