Police are warning about a sophisticated online romance scam after a pensioner in canton Vaud lost nearly CHF 100,000 to someone posing as Hollywood actor Brad Pitt.
The woman told RTS that the scheme began on Instagram last year, when a man claiming to be Pitt’s manager offered to arrange a meeting.
Over months, the impostor built trust, declared his love - and asked for money.
She even flew to Los Angeles, waiting weeks for a meeting that never happened.
Brad Pitt’s spokesperson says the actor has no social media accounts and says the scams are a terrible exploitation of fans.
