Vaud Green MP Sophie Michaud-Gigon has confirmed she will run for the Council of States in 2027
The current head of the Romandy consumer federation FRC plans a joint campaign with sitting Socialist senator Pierre-Yves Maillard, aiming to unseat PLR incumbent Pascal Broulis.
Michaud-Gigon told the Matin Dimanche she wants to bring environmental protection and consumer defence to a chamber she describes as ageing and dominated by small cantons.
She acknowledged that election would force her to reorganise her role at the consumer federation. The Vaud seat is expected to be one of the more competitive contests of the 2027 federal elections.
