Police have arrested a 36-year-old man after two people were shot dead and another injured in Sion in canton Valais yesterday morning.

The first victim, a 34-year-old woman, was known to the attacker say the police.

He then went to a plastering company where he previously worked. He fired at a 49-year-old woman, injuring her in the shoulder – then he shot dead a 41-year-old manager.

Witnesses say another man jumped from a window to escape the gunman.

Press reports suggest the man is in dispute with the company.

A major manhunt was launched which triggered alerts in neighbouring cantons. The man’s face and name was immediately sent to the press and authorities across the country.

He was arrested early yesterday afternoon by local police in Crans-Montana.

Valais police say he’s known to them as he’s been convicted for threatening behaviour in the past, but he was not under surveillance.

His former boss told the press he was a problematic person and wasn’t employed for a long period.

The alleged attacker is now facing double murder charges.
