The Federal Health Office is updating its advice on how long the vaccine will protect against the coronavirus – it’s lifting the current 6 months to a year.
The change will have a major impact on the vaccination certificates. Almost a million have been sent out already and they will now be valid for longer.
It’s also good news for those who were the first to get the jab. They won’t need to have a booster shot in the near future.
But there are worries about the growth of the Delta variant – once called the Indian variant- on Monday it accounted for 1.5% of infections – the following day it was almost 5%.
But there is good news from the vaccine on the new variant – figures show those who have had both doses of the vaccine are well protected against it.
The Health Office says it sees no reason to change its continuous re-opening plan.
