A woman offering high-mountain climbing trips without the proper qualifications has been fined CHF 5,000 in Valais.
Between 2021 and 2023, she guided clients to peaks over 4,000 metres, including in the Monte Rosa massif, all without authorization.
Mountain guiding is tightly regulated because of the risks.
The Swiss Mountain Guides Association says cases like this come up every year and some do end up in court.
