French authorities have banned hunting on some land around the Salève after a stray bullet hit a hut close to where a 3-year-old child was playing.
The frightening moment was last Sunday in the commune of Monnetier-Mornex – the child’s parents were nearby.
Hunting around the area will be banned until further notice. Investigations will be carried out to see if the hunter had aimed at the house – or if the bullet was a ricochet.
The hunter who fired the gun has had his permit revoked – and if found to be at fault, is likely to be banned permanently.
