The weekend’s Escalade Celebrations benefitted from the dry, warm weather yesterday afternoon.

Hundreds of members of the 1602 Committee held the tradition of parading through the Old Town on horses, with torches and playing flutes.

It’s estimated around 50,000 watched at several points along the route.

The president, Alain Berset, fired the traditional cannon to mark the beginning of the parade.

It’s the 421st time the parade has been held to mark the time Geneva citizens successfully fought off an attack by the Duke Savoy’s troops in 1602.
